Sell in person with the SellStein Terminal

Tap to Pay on iPhone/Android, hardware readers, end-of-day reconciliation, and how online and in-person inventory stay synced.

Last updated 2026-05-10

If you sell in person. Pop-ups, markets, your own retail location. Terminal is how. Same products, same inventory, same dashboard.

Tap to Pay (no hardware)

iPhone XS or newer running iOS 16+ / Android 11+ with NFC. Open the SellStein mobile app → Terminal mode → ring up the customer → tap their card or phone on yours. Done.

No reader. No setup. Cards process in 3-5 seconds. Apple Pay, Google Pay, Samsung Pay all supported.

Hardware readers

For higher volume or fixed setups:

  • SellStein Reader (€59). Bluetooth chip + tap reader. Works with any iOS or Android device. 10-hour battery
  • SellStein Counter (€199). Counter-mounted reader with screen, signature pad, and integrated receipt printer
  • WisePOS (Stripe-branded). Works on the SellStein platform via Stripe Terminal API. €299

All readers use the same chip + tap + magstripe stack. Cash and check sales are entered manually in the app.

Inventory sync

Sales at Terminal decrement the same inventory count online sales do. If a product hits 0 stock at the brick-and-mortar location, the storefront stops accepting orders for it within 30 seconds.

If you have multiple locations, use Settings → Locations to track stock per-location. The Terminal defaults to the location you're physically at (geolocation-confirmed at app launch).

End-of-day reconciliation

Every Terminal session has a Z-report at end of shift:

  • Total sales (card vs cash)
  • Total transactions
  • Refunds issued
  • Cash drawer expected vs actual
  • Tips collected (if you use the tipping flow)

The card portion settles directly to your payout schedule. The cash portion is logged to your books. You reconcile against your bank deposit when you take the cash to the bank.

Receipts

Three options:

  • Email. Customer types their email, receipt sent. Default
  • SMS. Customer types their phone, receipt sent. Same content
  • Print. Paper receipt from the integrated printer (Counter reader only)
  • None. No receipt; the sale is still in the dashboard for the merchant

Email and SMS receipts contain a link to view the order online plus a one-click "Save card for next time" prompt that turns walk-ins into accounts.

Tipping

Settings → Terminal → Tipping → Enable. Configurable presets (15%, 18%, 20%, custom). Tips show as a separate line on the Z-report and are payable to the staff member who processed the sale (Settings → Terminal → Tip distribution).

Offline mode

If the wifi drops mid-shift, Terminal queues sales locally. Cards process via store-and-forward (the chip is read offline, the auth happens when connection returns). Up to €50 per sale offline; larger transactions wait for connection.

When connection returns, queued sales sync within 60 seconds. Same inventory and accounting effects as online sales.
